I READ Keith Firth’s letter with great interest about blowing up Weymouth’s pier.
I am so glad they enjoyed their visit and were treated with celebrity status also having a visit by the mayor at that time.
However, my question was not so much about “Who blew up our pier? But was who’s idea was it to blow up our pier?
No doubt someone on the council in their great wisdom agreed our lovely pier should go.
I watched many delightful shows on the pier, also taking part in beauty competitions and meeting famous stars from the shows.
Most councils in seaside towns would give their high teeth to have a pier that enhances their town, of course a pier has to be maintained, but that’s to be expected.
I believe there was also an official celebration about the event held in the town hall.
So I would like to say on behalf of the people in Weymouth it was indeed a very sad day for all of us when you blew our pier up and hope one day perhaps we might have another pier.
May I wish Keith Firth and his family many more happy holidays in Weymouth.
