According to some recent readers’ letters, I may be in a minority but I have to say that I very much like the striking little forest of sculpture at the Littlemoor roundabout. It is absolutely great! Even in a recession the arts have a huge role to play not to mention that, through this commission, a few people were able to earn a living in these hard times. Congratulations to the artist!

Whilst we are talking about our grand new road, I hope there are plans in hand to plant a multitude of trees and bushes to cover the present bold, bare and sad slopes exposed by digging the landscape, not forgetting to find some way to cheer up the rather forbidding tall fences which give such a strange tunnel effect along much of the way. We have a blank canvas. This is a perfect opportunity to make our contribution and respond to the appeal from Rural England and the Forestry Commission to restore our landscape to its former wooded glory of past. Could some of it be a community led project?
