If you’re still having trouble losing those few extra pounds you put on over Christmas then you can now make use of the newly installed outdoor gym equipment near the play area in Louviers Road.
The equipment includes a Spacewalker and Chest Press and can be used by anyone from teenager to pensioner.
Supplied by Wicksteed, the Chest Press requires the user to push the weight away from his or her chest in order to give the shoulder, chest and triceps’ muscles a workout. The Spacewalker on the other hand is used to improve the condition of the heart and help build mobility and strength in the hips and legs.
The equipment is a good way for people to exercise together socially or add new fitness opportunities to their regular walks through the area.
The project was overseen by Groundwork South after applying for funds from the Britvic “Transform Your Patch Scheme” aimed at giving communities more access to outdoor sports and recreation. Groundwork is a community and environment charity that carries out training, community, environmental and outdoor improvement projects.
Additional funding was also kindly provided by the Synergy Housing Neighbourhood Panel who funded the balance required to complete the project.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council helpfully offered to order and oversee the installation of the equipment to help save costs.
Local teenagers have already been keeping fit using the outdoor gym equipment and it is hoped that new pieces can be added as funding becomes available.
If you would like more information please contact Toni Powell at Groundwork South on 07889 756166.
