REGARDING bus passes for OAPS: I find it morally disgusting that West Dorset District Council cannot afford to subsidise travel for the elderly, disabled and those with mobility problems who are often travelling to Dorset County Hospital before 9.30am.
This means no one will attend any appointments before 11am at the earliest without paying for travel.
WDDC, however, spent £15M of public money for new offices and library, which by their own figures will not repay energy savings for 50 years, because the Charles Street developers said the scheme was unviable otherwise The same developers were again give a £2m effective subsidy by WDDC last year by saying that the scheme was again looking unviable.
It appears that vanity projects can be given unlimited funds so as to avoid losing face when they collapse but schemes benefitting the public are low priority. I draw a parallel between this attitude and that of North Korea which can squander millions putting a rocket into space whilst its rural population are starving and eat grass and tree bark.
Maybe Dorchester and Pyongyang should be twinned?
