Having just lost my mother I would like to sing the praises of all the staff at Westhaven Hospital in Weymouth.

Throughout mum’s stay there (she was admitted late September after suffering a broken hip and dementia) through to her recent sad death, she and her family received nothing but professional, compassionate care, coupled with such kindness it made us feel like we were with lifelong friends.

They encouraged us to take her dog to visit her to cheer her up.

When she reached final days they explained what would happen and my sister and I were able to stay with her 24 hours a day, sleeping in her room with her.

Nothing was too much trouble, the family’s needs were met as much as mum’s.

Even when she was heavily medicated, the nurses showed such care and gentleness towards her, explaining to her what they were about to do.

When she passed over, we were able to spend as much time with her as we needed; we were not rushed so that they may use the bed, although I am sure they needed it. If anybody had to wait, please accept our apologies.

In an age where there are so many moans and complaints about the NHS I would like to stand up for the wonderful staff.

I have never had any cause to complain. So thank you Jacqui, Kerry, Miranda, Zoe and all the others too numereous to mention. Without the care you gave to mum and us, it would have been a lot harder.
