I have just read Richard Drax’s letter arguing against taxing the rich (Echo, February 22).
I am horrified but not suprised that he is against it. After all he is incredibly wealthy, has a huge house, acres of land, a well-paid job as an MP and, of course, let us not forget the expenses.
Why shouldn’t the wealthy pay more? In the same edition of the paper it talks of the ‘bedroom tax’ hitting the benefits system, and the increase of council tax.
Whilst services are being cut and people are having to go to soup kitchens and rely on handouts he does not believe he should pay any more.
So it is okay for the rest of us? As long as the rich are not penalised.
I for one will be heartily glad when the next election comes and we can kick the Conservatives and Lib Dems out of office and hopefully find a way to get this country off its knees.
