THE circus is coming to town when Bridport plays host to a travelling circus, five years since the last time the Big Top appeared.

Circus Wonderland is due to arrive on Asker Meadows during the Easter holidays with shows running from Wednesday April 3 until Sunday April 7.

When Kakehole the Clown falls asleep, his bedtime story comes to life as showgirls, acrobats and jugglers transport him into a fantasy world of thrills and spills and laughter where anything can happen.

A close encounter is promised with the Duo Stefanelli, who fly through the roof of the big top in a spaceship, while the amazing Alejandro will set pulses racing as he swoops and soars high above the audience on his death defying trapeze.

Angel Bojilov can juggle and spin plates on sticks, all whilst perching precariously on a tightrope, and Hungarian State Circus star Laci will balance his wife Klaudia at the top of a 20-foot pole, on his head.

Kakehole is joined by the elegant whiteface clown Mr Popol, with whom he has twice been voted Britain’s Best Circus Comedy Act.

The pair will be arriving with a trunk full of tricks and will be accompanied by Bertie the cartoon bear.

Circus spokesman Paul Carpenter said: “We are really looking forward to bringing our show to Bridport, and are grateful to the town council for making our visit possible when they have not hosted a circus for several years.”
