Eversfield care home in Reigate is to take part in the first ever National Care Home Open Day on Friday, June 21.

The Elizabeth Finn Homes care home at 56 Reigate Road will be opening for a coffee morning and guided history tours of the building, followed by afternoon cream teas.

Reigate MP Crispin Blunt and Reigate and Banstead borough deputy mayor Steve Farrer will also be visiting to plant fruit trees.

The aim of the day is to encourage local people to visit care homes in their neighbourhood and work together to develop better relationships between the home and the community.

Around the country, thousands of care homes will be putting on a variety of events, activities and entertainments designed to bring people together and build connections.

Local connections are something that Eversfield has nurtured since it opened in 1954.

The care home acts as a community hub and has good connections with Reigate Grammar School, St Mary's Church and local dance and musical groups. Jane Hyde, general manager at the home, said: "This is a great way to showcase the excellent services on offer and the fantastic work that goes on at Eversfield. “Some people still have misconceptions about care homes, so we are keen to dispel any myths that are out there and for people to come and have a look around."
