YOUNGSTERS have shown artistic flair, creating a colourful legacy for their school.

The Year Four pupils at Frome Valley First School in Crossways helped to paint a stained glass window in the school reception.

Local artists Jenny Blacknell and Chrissie Fudge oversaw the project.

The pupils took turns to paint different coloured fields in an illustration of a big cross below a sun.

They used glass paint to add colour to the picture while supervised by Jenny and Chrissie.

Owermoigne artist Jenny said: “I’ve worked with the school before and we painted the glass panel on the other side of the door in reception.

“I was asked if I wanted to co-ordinate this again with the children.”

The original panel painted by last year’s Year Four, who have now left the first school, is a painting of the school building.

Teacher Tracey Piddock, the school’s RE coordinator, said: “The idea behind it is that because we are a church school we wanted something that reflects that. We’ve had so much good feedback on the first stained glass window we did that it seemed like a good idea to do another.

“All the former Year Four children who come back love seeing their work and that they’ve left something behind which will stay in the school.

“None of this would have been possible without the help we’ve had from the artists.

“We wanted to create something that would get people’s attention.

“The children have also made some banners for the hall which look really good.”

Moreton artist Chrissie said she and Jenny have worked with the school before because of family links.

She said: “The windows look so good when the sun is shining through there.”
