SIR Ben Ainslie, a three-time Olympic Sailing gold medallist, said the new generation of sailors ‘have a bright future’ thanks to new facilities in the borough.

This included the expansion of WPNSA with a new sailing school and windsurfing training centre and a new Royal Yachting Association training centre at Osprey Quay.

It also included a new £25million marina and marine workshops as well as improvements to Weymouth Harbour such as new pontoons, marine equipment, new showers and a better harbour reception.

Sir Ben added: “The new generation getting out on the water have a very bright future and a first-rate sports venue readily available to them that represents such a great opportunity.”
