MUSICIAN Mark Knopfler will be performing at the Bridport Arts Centre this September.

The former Dire Straits songwriter singer and lead guitarist will take to the stage on September 27 at 1pm.

Polly Gifford, Bridport Arts Centre director, will host the event and explore Mark's varied career.

She said: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity of talking on stage to global rock star Mark Knopfler about song writing and his amazing career, in aid of our building fund.

“We’re very grateful to Mark for giving his time for this special fundraising event.”

Mark will illustrate some of the points musically and answer questions from the audience, in a rare opportunity to hear the musician in such intimate surroundings.

Since leaving Dire Straits in 1993, Mark has continued to write, record and tour. He is currently on a sold out tour of Europe, including six performances in the Albert Hall.

Mark has also performed on work by other artists, such as Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Chet Atkins, and produced albums for artists such as Tina Turner, Randy Newman, and Bob Dylan.

Tickets will be released to Arts Centre members on August 9 and general booking will open on August 16.

Membership and tickets are available from Bridport Arts Centre's Box Office and tickets cost £30.
