FINAL touches are being made as Weymouth gets ready for its best day of the year.

And predications are that Weymouth Carnival is going to be a late summer spectacular.

Memories of last year’s soggy start will be forgotten as tomorrow looks set to be dry and mainly sunny with temperatures edging towards 20 degrees.

Organisers have a fun-packed day lined up including the Red Arrows, live music, food festival, grand parade and fireworks, with lots of games and competitions in between.

Visitors should not forget to buy a draw ticket to be in with a chance of winning a new car.

It’s been a tough job for the new committee to follow the success of previous years’ bigger carnivals but they are confident with community support they can put on a day to remember and raise thousands for local charities.

They are urging people to have fun, stay safe and dig deep to support the causes the carnival exists to help. Deputy president of Weymouth Carnival Lucy Compton said: “We’re really excited as the day draws near.

“We’re getting everything together to make sure we put on a great carnival and we haven’t forgotten to order the sunshine.”

The fun starts at noon today with the first part of the beach musical festival hosted by radio station Air.

Events kick off tomorrow at 10am when carnival queen Gina Hartley is crowned on the balcony of the New Vic on the Esplanade. People are invited to come along and give her a cheer.

Visiting families are being reminded to keep water and sun protection with them.

The Esplanade will be closed from 4.45pm on carnival day to allow floats to pass and restrictions will also affect the procession route from Greenhill. During the Esplanade closure the one-way order in Custom House Quay will be suspended to allow access to the ferry terminal and the Condor booking office only.
