COASTGUARDS warned about the dangers of cliff falls after walkers rescued a dog stuck down a cliff at West Bay.

Officers were called out at 12.10pm on Saturday after the pointer became stranded at West Cliff.

The dog was rescued by members of the public before West Bay Coastguard Rescue Officers arrived.

They gave safety advice, particularly about the risks of cliff falls.

The rescue came on a busy day for coastguard teams and lifeboat crews.

Wyke Coastguards in Weymouth were sent to help South West Ambulance paramedics after a 28 year old man suffered chest pains near Ringstead Bay at 6pm on Saturday.

He was checked over by paramedics who declared him fit and well before being taken home by coastguards .

He was thought to be very dehydrated and had possibly not eaten for a long while.

At 7.30am on Saturday Portland Coastguard was alerted by the crew of a passing boat to a small blue and white tender appeared to have broken its moorings and was in the middle of Portland Harbour.

The Portland Harbour launch recovered the tender and confirmed that nobody was in any difficulty.

Later that morning at 11.38, a dinghy with two people aboard was reported two hours overdue in Lyme Regis.

Portland Coastguard started making enquiries about sightings of the boat, but it was shortly afterwards spotted returning safely.

Portland Coastguard received a 999 call at 5.45pm received reporting a man swimming out to sea after an inflatable rubber ring with two teenagers aboard at Otterton in Devon.

He was kept under watch until he made shore safely with the rubber ring.

A 25 ft Fairline sports boat ran out of fuel off Hengistbury head, near Christchurch, and called Portland Coastguard on 999 just before 3pm.

The Christchurch harbour patrol boat Mike Papa towed the vessel into Mudeford Quay. 1643. The 37 foot yacht Serendipity called mayday after losing power and nearing rocks off Old Harry, Studland Bay at 4.45pm on Saturday.

The Benboy put a line on the yacht whilst Swanage lifeboat and Inshore lifeboats launched.

Swanage Coastguards also headed to the scene.

The Serendipity was put on a mooring to stop her drifting.
