FIVE kayakers were helped to safety when they came up against strong winds.

The kayakers had been off Redcliffe Point near Weymouth taking part in a triathlon yesterday morning.

Two had been in danger of being blown out into the bay and rescuers also helped another three kayakers back to Bowleaze Cove.

Later in the day in West Bay a motor boat was towed back into harbour after the engine failed.

Nearby vessel Ruby J responded to a call by Portland Coastguard to help.

A diver was flown to the decompression chamber at Poole Hospital after showing symptoms of the bends.

The 35-year-old man had been diving off the east side of Portland just after 4pm.

The Weymouth RNLI Inshore Lifeboat helped a vessel that had damaged its propellor near the entrance to Portland Harbour and coastguards investigated after reports of voices at the bottom of the cliff close to the National Coastwatch Tower.

The voices turned out to be those of two anglers who were not in any danger.
