I studied the dorsetforyou.com/traveldorset website, due to my concern that the Down Close area is destined to lose the Saturday service next January.

I note with interest that only 4.9 passengers use this service per journey, hence our loss.

Last year we were told that SouthWest (who covered the route then) were aiming to stop running the service altogether.

Many people objected, many people said they would use the bus more often and every aspect of why the service was needed was put forward.

Councillor Kate Wheller spearheaded a campaign to do all she could to ensure the service was retained.

Her actions were successful inasmuch as Damory took over the route and, for that, we were very appreciative.

All the words spoken, all the column inches printed and all the actions taken sadly have brought us back to almost square one.

If we are to keep the Monday to Friday service, then the 4.9 passengers per journey need to increase dramatically.

When I ask people why they don’t use our current service, replies vary, from ‘if only they would run earlier’ or ‘we are unable to use the service both ways’ or ‘we can’t be blamed for not using a service at dinner time when most people are eating’ and ‘if only they would run an extra service’.

So, it seems our current providor, like all its predecessors, can’t win.

Curiously enough, this week, all properties in Wyke Regis have been visited by representatives of Dorset County Council, in the guise of Travel Dorset.

Within their official leaflet, they provide bus information for the area of Wyke Regis.

Service 1 (First) is featured, along with route and timetable.

Service 206 (SouthWest) is also featured, again with route and timetable.

But, and this is a big but, there is no mention of Service 207 (Damory) and consequently no route or timetable.

This begs the question: ‘Does someone at DCC know something we as users don’t?’ If that is an incorrect interpretation on my part, it can only mean that someone has provided all this information, at enormous expense only to find it is failing in providing the full list of bus services and therefore has done Damory no favours.
