THE B-Fit leisure centre in Beaminster scooped £2,000 from an affordable housing provider to run summer activities for children.

Magna Housing gave funding for the summer activities through its community initiative fund after being impressed by B-Fit centre manager Richard Mooney’s desire to encourage children to keep fit and interact through sport.

The sessions ran daily over three weeks with around 15 to 35 children aged between five and 14 attending a wide range of activities each day including football skills, gymnastics, tramolining and dodgeball.

Mr Mooney, B-Fit centre manager, said: “We’re very grateful that Magna recognises the need to help support their tenants’ children and the local community to stay active.

“We’ve seen children as young as five taking up new sports and learning life saving skills that could save a life.”

Magna has also paid for five of its residents’ children to attend the summer scheme.
