COASTGUARD REPORT: Coastguards assist stricken vessels and find missing divers.

Early on Bank holiday Monday the 49ft yacht Augustina, on passage from Cowes to Weymouth, reported they had come across an unoccupied tender boat with an outboard motor about four nautical miles out from Lulworth.

Coastguards began a search and three hours later, while enquiries were still ongoing, received a call from the yacht Reubus.

The occupants called to say their tender had disappeared- the details matched the found tender and arrangements were made to reunite the owners with their craft.

Later in the morning a red flare in Weymouth Bay was reported to the Portland Maritime Rescue and Co-ordination Centre in Weymouth.

The bearing and distance suggested that the flare had been fired from on land. Enquiries were made which supported the theory and there were no reports of people in distress received.

The dive boat Fast Reactor called the coastguard at 12.25pm to say they believed they had seen a paraglider crash into the sea off Mupe Bay, east of Lulworth.

Once on the scene the boat reported that it was actually a large bunch of balloons which were then retrieved from the water by another vessel.

Later in the afternoon the Lyme Regis Coastguard Sector Manager was approached by a woman at Lyme Regis Harbour who had suffered an allergic reaction to a wasp sting.

She was helped to the nearest chemist and the sting was treated with anti-histamines. She was then taken back to the harbour to be reunited with her husband.

Dive boat Indecision reported three divers were overdue from a drift dive on Lulworth banks on Monday afternoon.

As coastguards gathered information the dive boat confirmed that all divers had safely surfaced a short distance away.

The seven-meter rib vessel Hummingbird reported they had suffered engine failure in Lyme Bay, near Charmouth and were adrift.

The coastguards put out a call on the VHF radio and the cruiser Hafana responded and towed the boat to West Bay Harbour.
