I read the recent letter from a lady in Newstead Road about getting hit by a cyclist.
Local authorities are contin-uing to make the error of shared footpaths and cycle tracks. The track through the bird reserve was made wider last year and we thought, at last some sort of effort, but it is not maintained.
It is less than a metre wide in places because it is overgrown. It has had one effort this year to cut back vegetation but within a day was overgrown again because the plant life was pushed back rather than cut. What is the point of these tracks if not maintained?
Also could someone tell me if cyclists do have the right of way as the majority of cyclists won’t slow down and come straight at you even if you have children with you. I feel it is a terrible shame that pedestrians (and cyclists) are put in constant danger due to these shared tracks.
A final note to cyclists: you don’t have the right to ride on footpaths.
