A WEYMOUTH student is in shock after winning a new car in the carnival grand draw minutes after buying his ticket.

Lee Sharpe, who lives in Littlemoor with his parents, says he still can’t believe he won the first prize, a brand-new five-door Citroen C1.

He bought a single ticket for £1 at Weymouth Carnival and found out that he had won the top prize just minutes later.

The 19-year-old said: “I was very lucky. It’s still a shock.

“I’ve never had good luck in the past or won anything like this before.

“After I finished work I went to get a ticket at about 9.50pm and 10 minutes later I won the prize so I was really lucky.

“I was in town and just about to go home when my mate rang me and asked if I had bought a ticket because I had won something.

“I thought he was messing about.”

Lee added: “My mum and dad didn’t really believe me.

“I’d normally say something like that to mum as a joke.

“In the end I had the lady from Citroen on the phone to mum before she would believe me.”

Lee, who is studying health and fitness at Bath University said: “I can’t wait until I get the car, I’m really, really excited.

“I’m definitely going to keep it and it will be my car for years hopefully.

“At the moment I drive an old Renault Clio, so it’s definitely an improvement.

“I work as a lifeguard for Haven Holiday Parks and I’m studying.

“It will be so handy for getting to university and work.”

The winner of the second prize, a holiday at Weymouth Bay Holiday Park, was Simon Rigby and the third prize, a child’s electric car, went to Stephen Mould.
