A FAULTY iron triggered a fire at Fairfield House residential care home on Charmouth road in Lyme Regis on Bank Holiday Sunday.
Four fire crews from Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Bridport and Axminster rushed to the scene at around midday on Sunday, but the fire failed to spread because staff had kept the fire doors closed.
The fire was sparked by an electrical fault in an iron which was in the laundry room of the building.
Karen Stephens, manager of the care home, praised the way staff dealt with the fire.
She said: “I am pleased the staff who were working dealt with the fire and the proper procedures very well.
“Thankfully, nobody was hurt or needed any treatment, and nobody was distressed because of the incident.
“The laundry room has some damage caused by the smoke, but we shall be giving it a deep clean in the next couple of days, and the room should be back working by the end of the week.”
A fire service spokesman praised the staff for keeping the doors closed, and said the only damage was to the iron and ironing board, and the smoke damage in the room.
