NATURE lovers in Weymouth are running a special weekend to see one of Weymouth’s most spectacular residents.
The weekend from September 21-22 at the RSPB Radipole Lake reserve will be devoted to the kingfisher. It includes bird spotting and children’s activities.
RSPB Information Officer Luke Phillips said “Last year, kingfishers had a bit of a rough time with flooding.
“They make their homes in riverbanks, usually just a few feet above the water, which means they can easily be washed out by high water levels. Thankfully this year has been flood free so kingfishers should have done much better. We’ve already started seeing kingfishers on the nature reserve and numbers are likely to build over the coming weeks as young birds leave their parents’ territories.
“We’ll have a small army of volunteers manning all the kingfisher hotspots around Radipole Lake giving visitors their best chance of tracking down this stunning bird.”
The events all start from the Wild Weymouth Discovery Centre on the edge of the Swannery car park.
