PLACES for the Windy 500 charity car rally 2014 are up for grabs.

Organiser Steve Blackmore is urging those with a sense of adventure to take part in the 16 day international trip – covering thousands of miles in a banger.

The charity event will set off from Weymouth on Friday, June 13 and return on Sunday, June 29 next year.

Drivers will experience European mountain ranges, stunning coastlines, fascinating cities and famous roads.

The route is under wraps and participants will be informed of the following day’s destination the day before.

Mr Blackmore, a father-of-three, said: “On Friday, June 13, a number of teams will gather in Weymouth to set off on the next exciting Windy 500 International Driving Experience.

“The following 16 days will take them through various European countries on an action packed trip before returning to England on Sunday June 29th, tired, emotional and blithering on about all they have seen and done.

“It should take people a little bit off the beaten track and to places they wouldn't necessarily think of visiting.

“Last time, we visited Romania, Albania and Slovakia among many other countries, all were stunning in different ways. I’m hoping that this route will be even better.”

This year will see two categories of vehicle – gold standard vehicles must cost under £500 and/or be more than 30 years old. While silver standard vehicles should cost under £1,500 and/or be more than 20-years-old.

Teams must consist of at least two people but there is no upper limit.

The cost of entry will be £400 for newcomers, or £300 for those who are returning for another trip.

The money raised will be donated to Dorset children’s hospice Julia’s House, which is a charity that Mr Blackmore feels passionately about.

This year’s rally raised almost £17,00 for Julia’s House.

Mr Blackmore was inspired to set up the event after organising a successful bus trip to Ethiopia four years ago to raise money for Clic Sargent.

He added: “This year’s vehicles included a limousine, several 30-year-old camper vans, a 51-year-old Morris Minor and four restored BMW motorbikes amongst many others.”

Other teams included two paramedics who will be taking a decommissioned ambulance on the journey.
