GIVE and take is the secret to one Weymouth couple’s 60 years of happiness.
Charlie and June Wood, nee Harding, will be celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary with a meal, surrounded by their family and close friends.
The diamond pair married on September 5, 1953, in Weymouth registry office.
They met at the King’s Arms pub in the town when June went to watch her father play a darts match.
Mr Wood worked as a builder’s labourer. Mrs Wood was a chambermaid in the Gloucester Hotel. Among the guests she looked after was the late Lord Louis Mountbatten.
The couple live in Westham and have two daughters, Sue and Karen, a son Richard, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The couple said the secret to their success was ‘give and take’.
