Almost 200 runners took part in the Dumble Bimble Fun Runs organised by the Royal Manor of Portland AC in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

Besides local runners, teams from Egdon Heath Harriers, Weymouth St Paul’s, Portland United FC senior and youth teams, Portland Town FC and two reporters from the Dorset Echo took part.

Complete with dog collar and accompanied by his wife Clare, Portland parish curate the Rev Mark Phillips was spotted in the two-mile event – the first time as far as it is known that a clergyman has joined in the fun.

Third time consecutive winner of the five-mile run, Chris Perham, 18, completed the course in a personal best time of 26m 22s.

Triathlete Chris said: “It was an enjoyable but hard fought run as Benedict Westhenry from Weymouth St Paul’s was onlytwo seconds behind me.”

Independent runner Samuel Harle was in 3rd place and Amanda Milner from RMPAC was first lady.

A participant in the two-mile run since he was nine years old, it was the winning year for 14-year-old Harvey Camp with Dan Souster from PUFC in second place and Simon Crouch, PUFC third.

Hannah Westhenry, 14, Weymouth St Paul’s was first lady home.

Race organiser Andy De Havilland said: “Everything was in our favour tonight with perfect weather, happy runners and lots of spectators to cheer them on in this event which is in memory of father and son cancer victims Al and Andrew Dumble”

“We are very grateful to all who helped and to those who contributed prizes for the draw in which the star prize of a slow cooker was donated by Tesco Easton.”
