FUNDRAISERS are preparing to go wacky for Children in Need tomorrow.

Events are happening across the county supporting the fundraiser, which aims to ensure that every child in the UK has a childhood that is safe, happy and secure.

Children In Need provides grants to projects in the UK which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged.

Joint owners of the Golden Lion pub in Weymouth, Derek and Gloria Giles, are holding a 12-hour music event on Sunday with more than 10 local bands performing.

Entertainment includes Trannioake, Tripod, Flybone Yellow, Dakota, Neon Yellow, AC Beebies, Four Go Mad In Dorset, Red Crow, Bit of Rough and Mama Feelgood.

The show will take place from noon until midnight on Sunday with punters being asked to give donations throughout.

Mr Giles said: “We would encourage people to pop down and give what they can to such a great cause.

“We did a similar event last year, raising money for Oxfam, and raised £700. We are hoping to top that this year for Children In Need.”

Other events include a raffle, car wash and cake sale at St Aldhelm’s Church in Weymouth from 9am to 6pm, organised by the director of Dorset Cleaning Services, Kirsty Neilson and her partner Kieron Howes.

She said: “Children in Need is a fantastic cause to fundraise for and we raise money every year.

“Last year we raised £300 and are hoping to beat that this year – we already have £50 raised from our raffle, which is a great start.

“My seven-year-old son Maxwell loves to watch the programme every year and get involved in all the activities we do, so I would urge everyone to pop down and help us fundraise.”

Staff and school students across the county will also be dressed in fancy dress to fundraise for Children In Need, including staff at Weymouth’s Asda store, children at Sunninghill Prep aratory School, Dorchester and staff at Sainsbury’s Weymouth store.
