POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an alleged assault on a 66-year-old man in Weymouth.

The victim had just taken part in the town's Remembrance Day parade.

The incident happened at around 12.50pm on Sunday in the public car park in Jubilee Retail Park.

The victim, a 66-year-old local man, was sitting in his car when he was approached by an unknown man and allegedly punched in the face. He was not seriously hurt.

Sergeant Neil Wood, of Weymouth police, said: “I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact Dorset Police urgently.

“The victim had just returned to his vehicle after taking part in a Remembrance Day parade, and has been left extremely shaken.

“The incident happened in the daylight hours in a public car park, so I am confident someone may have seen it take place.

“We believe the alleged offender may have entered the Aldi supermarket moments after the incident.”

A 27-year-old Weymouth man has been arrested on suspicion of common assault and released on bail.
