A WEST DORSET-based calligrapher whose work has appeared in Hollywood films will showcase her work at a European-wide exhibition.

Ros Pritchard has been a freelance calligrapher for 25 years. Her work has been recognised by film producers worldwide and has appeared in films such as Pride and Prejudice, the Sherlock Holmes films and will also be seen in the new version of Far From the Madding Crowd.

The exhibition, entitled ‘26 Words’, is being organised by the Letter Exchange Society – a society for professional writers and those working in the letter industry – where she has been a member for ten years.

To celebrate the Letter Ex-change’s 25th anniversary, they teamed up with another creative organisation called ‘26’ and invited their members to pair up and create a special piece of work which will be showcased at a celebratory exhibition.

Mrs Pritchard, from Lyme Regis, said: “The Letter Exchange is really good because, with this job, a lot of the time you work in isolation and it is nice to talk to other people who are in the same industry as you.

“For the exhibition, writers were paired up with artists to produce a piece of work on a letter of the alphabet. I was paired up with Dan Radley and we created a piece on the letter T and the word touchwood.

“It’s been quite a challenging piece because it was a peculiar brief and we have had to communicate over email and I was quite nervous as well, but Dan was a great partner to work with and as soon as I started it all worked out.”

Mrs Pritchard is now gearing up for the exhibition, which will be launched in London at the Free Word Centre on November 26 and will run until the end of January.

It will then go on tour to venues in Reading, Sunderland and Hereford, before going to venues across Europe, including Belgium and Austria.

Mrs Pritchard added: “I’m really looking forward to the exhibition. I think it will be good to see what the other pairings have created and it’s exciting that my work will go around the country.”
