A DORSET charity is supporting a campaign which has the Royal seal of approval.

Disability charity Diverse Abilities Plus is backing Step Up to Serve, launched by Prince Charles to encourage young people to volunteer and take social action.

The charity, which supports children and adults with profound physical and/or learning disabilities, is encouraging the local Dorset community to give something back to society by volunteering for them.

Currently 100 people in the local area volunteer for Poole-based Diverse Abilities Plus and it also has temporary volunteers from organisations such as LV=, Nationwide and Bournemouth University.

Sarah Harrison, volunteer and recruitment manager at the charity, said: “We are strongly supporting this campaign as there are many benefits to volunteering and getting involved in the local community.

The charity says that people who volunteer get the benefit of building upon their skills and knowledge.

The campaign is aiming to double the number of young people participating in social action from 29 per cent to 50 per cent by 2020.
