Very special delivery for proud parents
ONE Christmas bundle couldn’t wait to arrive at a Weymouth home.
Vicky Sims-Duff and her husband Nigel welcomed their fifth child Cody – but the newborn didn’t hang around for the midwife.
Dad Nigel leapt into action when it became clear little Cody was on the way and delivered their newest addition at their home on Barnes-Wallis Close.
Having being present at the birth of each of the couple’s four children and an avid watcher of the TV programme One Born Every Minute, Nigel remained calm and helped little Cody into the world.
He said it was tense but exhilarating at the same time.
Everything went according to plan and their midwife arrived to find a healthy baby being welcomed by his brothers and sisters, along with mum happy and well.
After the morning’s events, the 51-year-old, who runs the Palm House Cafe with wife Vicky, then had to go and prepare dinner for 20 people at work.
He said: “It was quite the day, but Cody has been a special Christmas present for us all.
“It was pretty frightening but I’ve seen my wife have four children now and I watch ‘One Born Every Minute’.
“I’ve never done anything like it before but it all went okay and the midwife was completely astounded at how calm we all were.
“The children were all asleep at the time but we woke them up to meet their little brother.”
He added: “Vicky was amazing, she stayed calm and our other children were so excited.”
Mum-of-five Vicky said: “I left it too late to call the midwife and I should have known my fifth child would be a quicker birth. It’s just been an incredible Christmas present for us all.”
