Trains suspended due to signalling problem at Christchurch

RAIL services have been suspended between Bournemouth and Brockenhurst this lunchtime due to a signalling problem at Christchurch.

South West Trains said the problem meant trains were unable to move past signals in both directions.

A replacement bus service has been arranged and will run passengers between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth.

Engineers are now on site and there is no estimate for when normal service may resume,

Earlier today passengers faced delays on services between Weymouth and Bournemouth due to ice on the track at Wareham.

The poor rail conditions meant fewer trains were able to operate and some services were cancelled or terminated short of Weymouth.

Passengers at Wool, Moreton and Upwey were advised to use help points and taxis were arranged to connect with onward journeys.

Do South West Trains not have any de-icing stock (i.e. trains specifically fitted with de-icer to thaw out tracks)?

South West Trains don't, Network Rail are responsible for the upkeep of the track including the use of the de-icing train.

I travelled by train in Russia at -23 with no problems. First bit of cold weather and we come to a grinding halt.

It was an absolute joke this morning. Replacement buses were put on for passengers coming from Poole to Weymouth due to icy conditions but not for passengers travelling in the direction of Weymouth to Poole meaning commuters were an hour late leaving. Disgusting service.
