YOUNG farmers danced, sung and acted their way to success in a bid to represent Dorset in a regional competition.

Marshwood Vale Young Farmers Club (YFC) emerged victorious in the entertainments competition with their compilation Marshwood’s Bits and Bobs.

Members of this club will compete in the category at the South West Area Competition at Newquay in March.

Dorset YFC Vice Chairman Rebecca Cox said: “The Marshwood Vale club really pulled out all the stops with singing, dancing and sketches. They were very entertaining.”

The event at the Pavilion in Weymouth also saw youngsters crowned as member of the year and awards were also given for best actress.

While the winner of the junior member of the year was decided in advance, the finalists of the senior member of the year competition faced questions on how they could increase group membership and what their favourite farm animal is to battle it out for the title.

Entrants had to write a CV outlining their achievements in the club.

The winner of the Harvest Supper was also announced.

Rebecca said: “The Harvest Supper is one of our most successful events throughout the year.

“The entertainments competition is a really good opportunity for us to showcase what we do.

“It’s not just about farming. We have some really talented actors, singers and dancers among our members.”
