Dorset Echo: Vessel sinks in Weymouth Harbour Vessel sinks in Weymouth Harbour

A BOAT sinking in Weymouth Harbour overnight sparked a coastguard alert.

A spokesman for Portland Coastguard said for reasons that are not currently known the small vessel in the marina began taking on board water last night and this morning just its mast could be seen above the surface.

He said there was initial concern from coastguards as they had information to suggest a man had been living on board the vessel.

However, the man was soon located safe and well and had not been on the boat when it had sunk.

For all our benefit, will the Echo tell us how you 'spark' a coast guard alert, perhaps it is by rubbing two trainee journalists together like the Boy Scouts start a fire (:o))

Oxford dictionary: to spark
- provide the stimulus for (an event or process): eg 1. the trial sparked a furious row 2. the severity of the plan sparked off street protests

It's not difficult.

Sounds like the owner is in the process of selling the boat to his insurance company?
