Council tax is set to rise in Weymouth and Portland.
Weymouth and Portland’s Management Committee decided to support recommendations that will go before full council to increase council tax for 2014/15 by 1.99%.
They recommended that £4,051 for funding for 2014/15 is given to Portland Town Council in respect of the Local Council Tax Support Scheme.
But councillors said that if the town council went ahead with the proposed hike in its council tax precept that the borough council could incur costs to collect it – and so the money could be kept to cover the costs of council tax collection.
The recommendations will now go before the full council.
