LEISURE chiefs are gearing up to host the second weekend of top class quad bike racing on Weymouth Beach.

Dickies Quad Beach Cross hopes to build on the great success of the first event held in February last year.

This all-action motoring event promises to attract big crowds and generate a real boost to the trade throughout the area during the traditional off-peak season.

It will include youth motorbikes, quad bikes and spectacular sidecar and Thundercats boat racing which can all be viewed from the Esplanade spectator area.

ORE Events spokesman Duncan Irons said: “The Dickies Weymouth Beach Cross is a top class motoring event taking place on 22 and 23 February.

“We have competitors from the age of six years old to 72 years old travelling from all over the UK and a number of international competitors.

“We will be working with the local community and businesses to leave a positive footprint and increase the visitors to Weymouth at this normally quiet time of year.”

There will be a number of exhibitors including the Dickies Workwear Interactive stand and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Service, which the event is raising funds for.

There will also be a number of trade stands and exhibitors in front of Weymouth Pavilion.

Over the weekend there will be a screened pay-to-view spectator area, which will be run by the organiser ORE Events throughout the two-day event.

Coun Ian Bruce, spokesman for tourism and culture, said: “I am sure this event will provide a welcome out of season economic boost for the town and create a dynamic and impressive motoring spectacle for Weymouth.

“I wish ORE Events the best of luck with this great event and look forward to welcoming the team of riders and support crews for what we all hope will be a roaring success.”

Tickets to watch the events over the weekend will cost £5 per adult and children under 16 go free.

People can buy tickets from Weymouth Pavilion or here.
