A COMMITTEE should be created to give Portland residents a say on new quarries, councillors were told.
At a meeting of the Dorset County Council cabinet, county councillor Paul Kimber, who represents Tophill, spoke of a need for a mineral liaison committee.
Councillors discussed a report recommending the adoption of a minerals core strategy for the county.
Coun Kimber said: “Most of our quarries build in and around estates and it often conflicts with rights of way and people’s enjoyment of our beautiful coastline.”
Cabinet member for the environment Councillor Hilary Cox said: “I welcome that development but it relates more to the next stage when plans become site specific.”
Councillors approved the plans to adopt the strategy.
