A SNOW day resulted in a winter wonderland image from a Weymouth photographer who features in our latest photographic book.
Paul Lyde’s panoramic image of a snowy Chesil Beach features in the Echo publication Dorset: A Photographic Journey Through Towns and Villages.
He said he regularly took his camera out when on walks and could often take up to 100 photos before narrowing them down to a few of his best shots.
The 54-year-old from Weymouth has enjoyed photography as a hobby for most of his life since he received his first SLR camera in 1984.
He added: “I was out on a walk getting some fresh air with my step son when I decided to head up to the war memorial near the Heights Hotel on Portland.
“The viewing point is one of my favourite places to go because every time you go, Chesil Beach looks different – and because of the bad snow we had that month I couldn’t get to work that day.
“Every time I look at this photo of Chesil Beach I see something new I hadn’t noticed before – and the snow on the day was so pure because nobody had been out in it yet.”

This year we are producing a book picturing the changes to the Dorset landscape, featuring a selection of nostalgic Dorset landscape, town and village scenes over the years coupled with how the same image/landscape looks today.
So if you have any interesting old images of Dorset that you hold the copyright permission for, we would be interested in looking at them for possible use in the book.
When we have selected the images for publication our team of photographers will have the job reproducing an image on how it looks today.
Please send your digital photos as large as possible or A4 size at 300dpi to newsdesk@dorsetecho.co.uk including a description of the location, your name, contact details and permission for the use of the image in the Dorset Book and any media advertising for the book. The closing date April 30, 2014.
Prints can be sent or hand delivered to newsdesk, Dorset Echo, Fleet House, Hampshire Road, DT4 9XD.
