I noticed in your report of a traffic accident (p6 Saturday, February 8) that you referred to the two unwilling participants as, ‘a Portland man’ and ‘a woman from Portland’.
Is this a subtle reference as to which part of the island a person is born, as in ‘Kentish man and man of Kent’ which indicates which side of the Medway they originate from?
Perhaps one was from Tophill and the other from Underhill.
I am sure your readers would like clarification.
