Would I be correct in surmising that Cllr Ian Roebuck (Dorset Echo 8.2.14) is a reasonably fit man?

It may, of course, be an optical illusion but if the earlier photographs in the Echo are anything to go by, the elderly, frail and infirm are going to experience real problems even to put their rubbish in the bins. Furthermore, if like me they have Thirties-sized kitchens, coupled with the use of crutches, keeping the caddies indoors will be a real health and safety hazard.

I do not know anyone today who is against recycling. Indeed, for anyone born before or during the Second World War, recycling was once a way of life to which they can enthusiastically re-adapt. I am on ‘special assistance’ and currently manage with the help of friendly/helpful waste oper-atives.

However, I suspect that I am far from being the only one in my age group or younger with shoulder joint problems which make heaving the rubbish, even into the current wheelies, difficult. Any taller and it will simply be impossible.

WD currently march to a different drum to Weymouth and Portland so it is not an immediate problem for me but will be when the scheme is rolled out to WPBC, as it seems it will be.

Currently, a number of hospitals are using ‘fat suits’ to enable their staff to empathise with the obese. Could we not make it mandatory for council staffs everywhere to have ‘disabled suits’ for use before coming to any decision involving physical involvement of the Council Tax payer?

Please, all you fit employees and councillors at WDDC and WPBC, before making decisions, try walking in the moccasins of the disabled and the frail, of whom there must be many, bearing in mind this is a popular retirement area.
