THE Dorset Echo has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

It has been nominated for Regional Daily Newspaper of the Year at the 2014 Fujifilm Newspaper Awards.

The award nomination comes after the Weymouth and Dorchester-based title was shortlisted for Campaign of the Year for its Purbeck Isle fundraising drive at the EDF Energy London and the South awards last year.

Dorset Echo reporter Rachael Burnett was also nominated in the Newcomer of the Year category.

The Echo’s sister title, the Bournemouth-based Daily Echo, has also been nominated in the Fujifilm Newspaper Awards.

Group Editor of the Dorset Echo and Daily Echo, Toby Granville, said: “I’m delighted that the talents and efforts of our exceptional, hard-working teams in Weymouth and Bournemouth have been recognised by the newspaper industry once again with both the Dorset Echo and Daily Echo being shortlisted for this prestigious award.”

The pair are the only two titles from the Newsquest group to be shortlisted and they will go up against the Cambridge News, Gloucester Citizen, News & Star, The Herald (Plymouth) and The Journal.

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony at the London Hilton on April 1.
