DRUMMERS united to raise the roof in a live radio fundraiser for a blood cancer charity.

Musician Danny Adams, 27, who presents a show on Weymouth and Portland’s community radio station Air FM, decided to host the awareness event after getting back in touch with a friend.

Mr Adams recently heard from his friend and Tripod band drummer Grant Holford, 26, who has been diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukaemia, together with a rare condition called Philadelphia chromosome disorder meaning he will need a bone marrow transplant.

Local musicians rallied together to support Grant with a live radio event on Monday at the Air 107.2FM studios in Weymouth and raised more than £500. Live donations were encouraged on the show which raised money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research – a charity solely dedicated to research into blood cancer.

Mr Adams said: “The show was amazing and the response we’ve had so far has been fantastic.

“Grant’s mother Mel and girlfriend Lauren Bush came to watch us and said they were overwhelmed with the support for Grant.

“We played a version of Cozy Powell’s classic Dance with the Devil, and Grant counted us in live over the phone.

“More than 10 drummers took part but those who couldn’t make it donated live over the phone.”

The event was live from 8pm until 10pm, the normal time slot of Danny’s rock show. For more details email airguitardan@yahoo.com or donate at justgiving.com/drummersunite
