DORCHESTER’S weekly car boot sale is helping boost community groups and charities in the area.

From today, local good causes can apply for a share of the Dorchester Market Car Boot Fund.

Grants from £50 to £3,000 are up for grabs by charities seeking extra cash for projects in the county town.

The money is generated by car boot sales held every Sunday by the Dorchester Markets Joint Panel.

Chairman and district councillor Mary Penfold said: “We would like to encourage as many local community groups as possible to apply. We really value the work they do in Dorchester.

“The grant is easy to apply for and organisations are free to call if they need any help or support.”

Last year funding was received by groups and charities including Dorchester Athletics Club and the Dorset Blind Association.

Deadline for entries is April 30 and groups will be informed as to whether they’ve been successful by June.

Those who receive a grant will be invited to a celebration in September.
