A SERVICE that helps people with complaints about the NHS find a voice has helped hundreds of people in its first year of operation.

Operations manager for Dorset Advocacy Benita Moore gave an update to the Dorset Health Scrutiny Committee on the work her organisation had done since it started taking on complaints about NHS funded services on April 1 last year.

She stressed that Dorset Advocacy, an organisation with over 20 years’ experience, was not responsible for investigating complaints but could act as a source of advice and signpost people to relevant services.

Mrs Moore said the service was all about giving people with complaints about the NHS a voice and was available to everyone.

She said: “We offer free and independent information, support and advocacy.”

Mrs Moore said that since the service started it had helped 366 Dorset residents to raise complaints. Councillor Ros Kayes said: “I’m really glad there is an independent body that is undertaking this function.”
