New West Dorset music festival unveiled

Dorset Echo: Dodgy Dodgy

West Dorset is set to rock to a new music festival this summer The Jurassic Fields Music Festival will be held on the Asker Meadows, Bridport, on July 12.

The headline act will be power rock trio Dodgy that rose to prominence during the Britpop era of the 1990s. They are best known for their hits Staying Out for the Summer, If You're Thinking of Me and Good Enough.

Headlining the acoustic stage will be Weymouth band The Leggomen. The top act for the comedy stage is Joel Dommett who was the face of MTV in 2012 and presented their daily news bulletins.

He also worked on the live new Channel 4 aftershow, Live in Chelsea, How to Survive a Disaster Movie (Channel 5) and the hugely successful Impractical Jokers (BBC3).The festival will feature local talent as well as up and coming bands from around the South West.

Bands signed up include Jonathan Cotton, The Transitions, Vanilla Radio, The Mutter Slater Band, Funky Munks, The Rising, Sam Rich, Daisy Wardle, Peter James Milson. Mr B the Gentlemen Rhymer, Shelby's Elbows and Peter Crawford.

The festival is not for profit and 80 percent of any profit generated from this year's event will be re-invested into next year's festival.

Organisers Daniel Broom and Scott Morris said: “Each year ten percent of any profit will be donated to local music projects in and around West Dorset. The other ten percent will be donated to a local charity or club chosen by the committee which we are planning to establish.

“ For the first year this will be donated to Bridport Football Club in recognition of their support of the festival at its early stages.

“The event is aimed at being a community event and the festival will be held over one day with music starting at 10am going on to 11pm in the evening. The music will be held over two stages with one main stage and one smaller acoustic stage.

“The two stages will complement each other to allow a continuous flow of music throughout the day. The acts will consist of mainly local bands with a more mainstream known band headlining on the main stage to close the festival.

“ We will be running various fundraising events in the run-up to the festival and hopefully hosting a competition giving a local winner from an open mic night the chance to perform on one of the stages.”

“As well as the music we will be hosting a comedy cavern in the marquee bar. There will be a kids' area with various entertainment and workshops taking place to keep them occupied throughout the day as well as a fun fair.

“There will also be a number of food stalls as well as local stall holders selling their goods. “

In response to Bollard's comment with regard to the Jurassic Rocks Festival on Portland the following week I can understand how this may be a bit confusing but I can assure you that neither party was aware that the other one was holding a music festival especially with similar names until a few weeks ago. We have both been working on these projects for a long time with Jurassic Fields Established the middle of last year. We had to go through a license process which Jurassic Rock's did not so could not publish anything until the license was granted. We are both now in contact and while both events are different in what they offer we are trying to make them both a big success and enjoyable day out for the community.
