Cut price shopping (Echo, Mar 18) will do nothing to significantly change a Britain where the richest five per cent own more wealth than the poorest 20 per cent. Recent governments have helped the rich to get very much richer (often through the privatisation of our national wealth) while the rest of us get poorer by the day.

Most of us are preoccupied with trying to meet rising costs with falling income and have little faith in the pre-election promises of self-obsessed politicians.

Bargain Brand Food Outlet is providing a lifeline to many local people. Nobody expects West Dorset District Council to break with the failed policies of their political masters.

However, at the very least, they should not attack those who are offering a little help to those who are struggling to make ends meet. I hope that the council will see sense and ensure that this service continues to serve the local community.
