RESIDENTS at a Dorchester care home have been busy knitting and making handmade items to raise funds for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

Colten Care’s Castle View at Poundbury handed over a cheque for more than £700 to the local charity after setting up a ‘Punch and Judy’ stall in reception to sell items such as knitted baby clothes, purses, pin cushions, knitted poppies, blankets, handmade cards and bookmarks.

Resident Jean Sparks, 81, managed to knit an amazing 40 baby cardigans and is already working on another three.

She said: “Knitting is a good way of keeping busy and I’m so pleased that my cardigans are benefitting Weldmar.”

Jean and Castle View’s activity organiser Sue Goodwin presented a cheque for £707.44 to Weldmar’s director of fundraising Caroline Nickinson, pictured.
