A DEDICATED Weymouth worker will take to the streets in Paris to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Shannon Hill, 20, who lives in Beaminster but works at Lloyds bank in Weymouth, will take part in the Paris Marathon on April 6.

The keen runner will tackle the track of 26 miles for the charity which is close to her family’s hearts in a bid to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

The Alzheimer’s Society is a UK care and research charity which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia.

Local services by the organisation include day care and home care for people with dementia, as well as support and befriending services to help partners and families cope with the demands of caring.

Shannon said: “Awareness of Alzheimer’s and other dementias needs to be raised; more and more people are being diagnosed and I want to try and help however I can.

“Anyone who feels they would like to donate and help me support those suffering with the condition, as well as raising awareness of Alzheimer’s, please do get in contact or donate what you can.”

A charity football match was also held on Sunday March 9 at the Redlands Community Sports Hub in Weymouth to support the Alzheimer’s Society and Shannon’s efforts.

The match was organised by Lloyds Bank in Weymouth where a team from the bank played against another team from Lloyds Bank in Bournemouth.

The match raised a total of £290 and has enabled Shannon to almost reach her fundraising target. Shannon added: “My fundraising target for the marathon is £2,000 and I am currently at £1,700 – which is fantastic.

“I have also been training with Darren Hallett at Fitness World gym based on Radipole Lane; he has been fantastic and has really helped me with my fitness.

“The support I’ve had so far has been brilliant and I’m looking forward to giving the Paris Marathon my best shot.”
