CONSTRUCTION work has started on new retirement apartments in Weymouth.

Located on North Quay, the development is a mix of 43 one and two-bedroom apartments for people aged 60 and above and will be built by McCarthy & Stone.

People are being invited to register their interest in the development, which overlooks Weymouth Marina and sits on the site of the old fire station.

The first residents will move into the building in summer 2015.

Plans to develop the site were backed by councillors in August.
