I agree wholeheartedly with David Glossop’s views on the translation issue.
I used to own an apartment in the Costa Brava, Spain, for about eight years.
The system there is similar to that in France. If you don’t speak the language you have to take with you and pay for a translator, or no one will attend to you. This applies to all official departments, health, council or legal. Foreigners who need this service accept the system or learn to speak the language, and why not?
No wonder so many people (not all) come to our country expecting everything to be laid on a plate. And it is!
When is our government going to have the guts to sensibly change our system to fall in line with other countries and save UK residents having to foot the enormous bill?
