THE Rotary Dorset Bike Ride is returning – with the added addition of the new challenging Dorset 100-mile Etape. The challenge, being held on Sunday, September 7, starts from Longthorn Camp Site, next to Monkey World.
Last year’s event raised over £28,000, with over £22,000 going to Cancer Research UK, Now in its third year and raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK, this year’s ride looks set to be bigger and better, offering more for the seasoned riders, but not forgetting the family riders and those who prefer a shorter gentle route.
The Dorset 100-mile Etape is a challenging sportive event through Dorset’s great country side.
The route has been put together with the help of the Purbeck Peloton Cycle Club and has been designed for those who have ridden in similar events.
In addition to the 100-mile Etape, there are 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75 mile routes.
So whether you want a family ride or a real challenge there is a ride for you whatever your level.
All routes are circular and mostly on country lanes to ensure you have an enjoyable ride and will be well signposted with plenty of marshals to cheer you on and ensure you do not get lost.
David King, of the Wareham Rotary Club, said: “We have decided to make this fundraising event an annual ride to raise money for research so that people can beat cancer sooner.
“There are some great prizes to be won for those who raise sponsorship for the ride including a new £400 bike, £50 bike vouchers, membership to a leisure club and cycle jerseys all kindly donated by our sponsors Cyclexperience, the Westover Group and the Springfield Country Hotel”.
Shelley Davies, Cancer Research UK’s local fundraising manager for Dorset, said: “We are absolutely delighted that the Wareham Rotary Club are running this event for yet another year, their dedication means that we can raise even more money for Cancer Research UK here in Dorset.”
