HUNDREDS of people are expected to flock to Tolpuddle to enjoy the village’s street fayre.

The event, which is in its third year, has proved popular with visitors and last year attracted around 2,000 people.

The fayre will see the whole village come alive on Sunday and a host of entertainment has been lined up.

One of the organisers, Annette Pitman, said: “We’ve got different craft and food stalls as well as charity stalls.

“We’ve got traditional games like skittles and coconut shy and we’ve got laser archery plus lots of children’s games and we’ve got donkey rides and a children’s treasure hunt.

“We’ve also got musical entertainment, kind of like a mini festival, with local artists doing the music and we will be awarding a prize for the best one.”

Visitors enjoying the Tolpuddle Street will also be doing their bit for charity with the event raising money for a range of local charities as well as Action Duchenne, which aims to improve the lives of people suffering from muscular dystrophy and search for a cure.

The event will run from noon to 5pm with the roads closed through the village to create a traditional street party atmosphere.

There will be refreshments and a barbecue on offer in the village hall and a hog roast in the village playing field.

The Martyrs Inn will also be offering food and drinks throughout the day and musical entertainment in the evening. From this year the fayre will take place every two years so visitors are encouraged to make the most of it, with the next event not scheduled to take place until 2016.

Annette said that the first couple of years saw organisers fine-tuning the event and this year they are expecting ‘a lot more’ visitors as they really promote the event.

She urged people to come long and enjoy a day of family fun with something for everyone.

Entry costs £3 with children under 14 going free. There is also free parking available.
